personal style to keep UK-US ties stable. He said Britain should respect the US
presidency and the bilateral relationship but would make disagreements clear and
'communicate with him in Trump's way'. Trump previously called Burnham
'extremely liberal' and downplayed his political influence. Burnham is expected
to be elected Labour leader unopposed on Thursday and to replace Starmer as
prime minister next Monday. UK-US relations, strained by Iran-related tensions
and stalled trade talks, will be a near-term challenge for him to repair.
