South Korea's Financial Services Commission (FSC) Chair Lee Eok-won said the
commission will shortly announce supplementary measures targeting single-stock
leveraged products. He said the key issue is the extent of their market impact
and that the FSC will promptly formulate and publish measures. Asked whether the
FSC is considering temporary trading halts amid sharp market declines, Lee said
such steps could produce larger side effects and are under comprehensive
evaluation. He flagged elevated volatility in the global semiconductor sector
under a "supercycle"—rapid gains and swinging expectations—as a key backdrop to
recent swings in Korean and global semiconductor stocks. Lee added that the
sharply higher combined market caps of Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix have
increased their weight in Korea's composite index, magnifying semiconductor
moves' impact on the broader market.
