China's Ministry of Commerce said that during U.S.-China economic and trade
talks in Madrid the U.S. made commitments on Hong Kong and investment. The U.S.
has since confirmed that Executive Order 13936 will not be renewed after it
expires this year and will be terminated. Beijing called the move an important
step in implementing the talks' consensus, welcomed the policy adjustment, and
urged the U.S. to respect Chinese sovereignty and the Hong Kong SAR's rule of
law and to restore and strengthen normal economic and trade exchanges.
