UK Prime Minister Burnham formally accepted the mandate to form a government and
pledged to drive UK reindustrialisation via public procurement and returning key
essentials to public control. He said powers will be devolved from Westminster
to the regions and a new 10-year industrial plan will be published later this
year. Cost-of-living measures — with a published cost assessment — will be
announced tomorrow. Plans also include increased council housing and measures
aimed at ending rough sleeping. Burnham said the government will continue to
follow fiscal rules and meet defence commitments. His first foreign calls will
be to US President Trump and Ukrainian President Zelenskiy; he said support for
Ukraine will remain unchanged.
