On July 21 the High Intensity Heavy‑ion Accelerator Facility (HIAF) in Huizhou,
Guangdong, passed an engineering acceptance review organized by the Chinese
Academy of Sciences, met all construction targets, and entered trial operation
to begin scientific research. Designated a national major science
infrastructure, HIAF is tasked with exploring the limits of atomic nuclei,
probing nuclear astrophysics processes, and supporting nuclear‑energy
development and multidisciplinary applications.
