On July 21 the national major scientific infrastructure High-Intensity Heavy-Ion Accelerator Facility (HIAF) on Huizhou's Renping Peninsula passed expert-panel acceptance, marking the completion and start of trial operation of the world's first advanced heavy-ion research facility combining a superconducting linear accelerator, synchrotron and storage ring. HIAF has begun scientific research, providing China with a domestically controlled, internationally leading heavy-ion research platform and filling a key gap in basic nuclear-science research in the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area and nationally.

U.S. defense minister Hegseth said Iran has already been given "every opportunity" to negotiate over the Strait of Hormuz and warned that if Iran attacks commercial vessels the U.S. will retaliate with "ten times the intensity."
