Shanghai municipal government issued its 15th Five-Year Plan to accelerate
development of an international shipping center, directing creation of an
industry-leading international shipping trading platform offering one-stop ship
and aviation asset trading. The plan mandates maintaining stable operation of
shipping index futures, strengthening risk controls on underlying indices,
cultivating industry clients and exploring new shipping-index futures products.
It also calls for leveraging Shanghai’s local carbon market experience to
orderly expand shipping and aviation firms’ participation in carbon emissions
trading.
