China’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs said at a July 24 briefing that 1H primary industry fixed-asset investment was 460 bln yuan, up 0.9% YoY, and primary industry value added rose 3.7% YoY. Rural retail sales of consumer goods reached 3.32 tln yuan in 1H, up 2.5% YoY and 1.3 percentage points faster than urban growth, highlighting rural consumption resilience. Agricultural imports and exports totaled $163.8 bln in 1H, up 10.8% YoY. The ministry said rural investment and consumption continued steady growth, supporting domestic demand.

The dollar index, measuring the dollar against six major currencies, rose 0.32% to 101.445 at the New York close on the 23rd. EUR/USD 1.1377, down from 1.1411; GBP/USD 1.3318, down from 1.3373. USD/JPY 163.80, up from 163.13; USD/CHF 0.8169, up from 0.8146; USD/CAD 1.4076, down from 1.4085; USD/SEK 9.7663, up from 9.7014.
