China foreign minister Wang Yi met Iran foreign minister Alaghezi on July 24 in
Kyrgyzstan at the SCO foreign ministers' meeting. China said the recent renewed
escalation in the Gulf is a source of deep concern and said the memorandum of
understanding signed just over a month ago is a valuable product of multilateral
mediation that should not be discarded. China urged keeping negotiation channels
open, returning to implementation of the MoU consensus and persisting with talks
while there is hope for peace. As a comprehensive strategic partner, China said
it will continue to support Pakistan and other parties’ mediation efforts to
restore direct dialogue and properly address issues in and around the Strait of
Hormuz.
