The 2026 APEC High-Level Roundtable on Data for Growth met in Chengdu on the
25th and issued a Chair’s Statement focused on data’s role in promoting
innovation, raising productivity and driving economic growth, and outlining
future cooperation priorities. The statement, citing rapid advances in digital
technology and AI, calls for APEC data cooperation to shift from “managing data”
to “using data,” moving beyond a primary focus on privacy protection and
cross-border flow rules to, while safeguarding security, cover the full chain of
data supply, flow, application and value creation to enable growth.
