Fox News, citing the New York Times, reported that Trump had temporarily shelved plans to significantly escalate military strikes on Iran; the White House on the 25th denied that claim, saying Trump retains all options. White House communications director Steven Cheung said Trump prefers a diplomatic resolution but will keep all options if Iran continues actions in the Strait of Hormuz or targets U.S. allies.

Iran armed forces spokesman Shekarchi said on the 26th the US faces a chaotic, unfavorable situation and has failed to achieve its objectives in the Strait of Hormuz and in efforts to weaken Iran. He said the US is seeking a new strategy and may withdraw from the conflict, a decision he tied to Israel's agreement. With Prime Minister Netanyahu visiting the US, Iran could face airstrikes or ground operations; Shekarchi added a ground option would leave the US more vulnerable. Iran says it is prepared for all contingencies.

Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said on the 26th its navy is conducting continuous patrols and surveillance across roughly 240,000 sq km of the Persian Gulf and Strait of Hormuz. The IRGC said any vessel that does not accept Iranian rules cannot transit the strait. It said US forces attempted to alter vessel routes but were met with warning shots and the vessels returned. Over the past 24 hours six vessels were ordered to anchor after IRGC warnings and complied with Iranian directives.
