On July 26 a wildfire in Avila province, central Spain, burned roughly 50,000 hectares, the largest wildfire recorded in Spain, the Interior Ministry said. Central-region blazes have destroyed about 77,000 hectares in total; a large fire in neighboring Toledo remains active and crews are working to prevent the two fires from joining.

A vehicle-ramming in Berlin’s Tiergarten on the evening of the 25th left one dead and 16 injured, police said; three are critical, eight seriously injured and five lightly wounded. Berlin police issued a public manhunt for a 21-year-old male suspect, Abdul B., saying he may be armed and dangerous and urging anyone who spots him to call authorities. Police have not confirmed the suspect’s motive and are still investigating whether he was the driver. Chancellor MERZ called the incident “a despicable act” and “an attack on our entire society.”

Germany’s Interior Minister Dobrindt said on the 26th a vehicle ramming into pedestrians in Berlin on the evening of the 25th is suspected to be a terrorist attack. The incident killed one and injured 29, several seriously. The suspect remains at large.
