Odisha state has ordered intensified quality verification of iron ore after
findings that some miners overstated ore grades to underpay royalties, a notice
shows. The directive covers major mining areas Joda, Koira and Keonjhar and
lists mines leased to JSW Steel, Tata Steel, Steel Authority of India (SAIL),
Jindal Steel and state‑owned Odisha Mining Corporation. The sweep could disrupt
domestic sales and exports of low‑grade ore. Odisha authorities and the named
companies did not respond to requests for comment.
