Axios reports Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu will meet Trump in the Oval
Office on Tuesday — their eighth meeting in Trump’s second term — but says
Netanyahu’s sway over Trump is markedly weaker than on prior visits. The meeting
could still matter as Trump weighs next steps, including possible coordinated
action between the two countries. During the opening months after the Iran war
began the men spoke almost daily to coordinate; Axios says call frequency has
fallen sharply in recent weeks and Netanyahu now leans more on Secretary of
State Rubio to read Trump’s thinking. Netanyahu reportedly struggled to secure
the Tuesday slot after failing to visit last week. Since the April 8 ceasefire,
Axios says Netanyahu’s influence on Trump’s Iran war policy has waned; Trump on
Monday acknowledged differences with Netanyahu, and two weeks ago Netanyahu
failed to convince Trump to drop an F-35 sale to Turkey.
