Ford Motor (F.N) shares rose 3.4% after the company raised its full-year profit guidance.

HSBC analyst Daragh Maher said markets have already priced in some Fed tightening; if the Fed holds rates the dollar could weaken. He said at least three Fed voters would need to back a hike to blunt the dollar's initial decline. Conversely, an actual hike would likely provoke an initial dollar rise larger than any initial drop from a hold. "If the pace of hikes is faster than expected, it will force markets to consider whether this is the first of a series," he added. He expects a pause would not materially alter expectations for a September hike.

July 29 — The Taiwan Affairs Office said a Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences research vessel conducted a lawful scientific fishery-resources survey in waters east of Taiwan from July 17–23 to assess stocks and support conservation and sustainable development. The office said the survey benefits both sides and accused Taiwan’s Democratic Progressive Party of baseless criticism, calling calls to increase maritime force spending politically motivated attempts to provoke cross-strait confrontation.
