At the midday close, China’s main futures contracts were mostly down: lithium carbonate and iron ore slipped more than 3%; soda ash and rapeseed meal fell over 2%; ferrosilicon, glass and rebar were down about 2%. On the upside, Shanghai crude (SC) jumped over 6%, ethylene glycol (EG) gained nearly 5%, fuel oil rose about 4%, paraxylene (PX), PET chips and low-sulfur fuel oil (LU) advanced more than 3%, while PTA and short fiber rose roughly 3%.

With Iran-related fighting and the Russia-Ukraine war depleting U.S. munitions stocks, the Pentagon has pledged nearly $100bn to defense contractors to accelerate production of Patriot and THAAD interceptors and has ordered 14 nuclear submarines under a $76.6bn contract.
