The EU today launched a tender to build up to seven AI super-factories across
Europe, an industry-led programme backed by up to €10bn of EU and member-state
funding and expected to leverage at least €20bn of private capital (total
>€30bn). The facilities will expand compute for training, inference and
fine-tuning of advanced frontier AI models, integrating advanced AI processors,
software and cloud stacks, high-speed networks and energy-efficient data
centres, and will connect to an existing 19-factory network. The initiative
targets startups, scale-ups, SMEs, industry, academia and the public sector and
is aimed at strengthening European tech capacity, resilience and strategic
autonomy.
