US President Trump told a Cabinet meeting a deal with Iran remains possible but
said he is increasingly distrustful of Iranian leaders, accusing them of lying
and citing five missiles fired at Jordan during negotiations. He described
Iran’s conventional forces as largely crippled — “no navy, no air force, no air
defenses,” though not wholly without capability — and reiterated Iran must not
obtain nuclear weapons. Asked about the next four weeks, Trump warned Washington
would carry out “very severe” strikes and predicted mounting pressure would
force Iranian concessions. He said advisers including Kushner, Vance and Rubio
were involved in talks and criticized negotiators for prolonging discussions.
