Iran foreign ministry spokesman Baghaei said Iran is not negotiating with the
United States and is holding talks with Oman solely to secure safe passage of
vessels through the Strait of Hormuz. He said Tehran and Muscat aim to consult
at the earliest opportunity to agree a principled, temporary shipping route to
ensure transit safety, and described the process as a bilateral matter between
the two littoral states. Baghaei added that the Strait’s blockade is the result
of U.S. actions and that the situation will not change while the maritime
blockade and U.S. incursions continue.
