KOSPI volatility since July has sharply depleted investor cash held at brokerages, shrinking a key liquidity pool, the Korean Financial Investment Association (KOFIA) said. Average daily investor deposits fell by nearly 20 tln won month‑on‑month last month and are about 10 tln won lower than in March, when a US‑Iran military clash triggered a market correction. Deposits stood at 104.6584 tln won as of the 30th of last month (the day KOSPI hit a local low), down from a record 139.6948 tln won on June 4 — a drop of more than 35 tln won in roughly two months. Investor deposits are funds in securities accounts used to buy stocks; the decline reduces potential buying power and weakens market supply‑demand momentum.
