U.S. President Trump told reporters at the White House on Aug. 3 that talks with Iran are underway and will proceed in two phases: first reopening the Strait of Hormuz, then denuclearization. Trump said Washington had been prepared to launch a major strike until Iran and Gulf states called to seek talks, reiterated that Iran must not possess nuclear weapons, and said he would not allow Iran to charge vessels for passage through the Strait of Hormuz, calling it "Iran's last chance."
