Canada's trade surplus widened slightly in June to C$3.86 bln (about US$2.7 bln) from a revised C$3.70 bln in May, Statistics Canada said. Exports rose 0.4% and imports 0.2%. Exports grew for a fifth consecutive month, led by a 16.5% jump in metal and non-metallic mineral exports driven mainly by increased gold shipments to the UK and foreign purchases of Canadian-held gold in June. Energy exports fell 10% amid lower crude prices.
