Yemeni Houthi forces said on the evening of Aug. 5 they fired missiles at a
Saudi tanker in the Gulf of Aden, saying "the missile hit the target, forcing
the tanker to turn back." The group said the attack is part of enforcement of a
"maritime shipping ban" and of "a blockade in response to blockade," and that it
will "continue monitoring all Saudi tankers' movements" and will not allow Saudi
tankers to transit the Red Sea north-south route until the blockade is lifted.
Earlier the same day the Houthis said they launched a missile strike against a
Saudi tanker near the Red Sea port city of Yanbu; Saudi authorities have not
confirmed either incident. A Houthi spokesman did not specify the timing of the
attacks.
