Hong Kong stocks closed lower on Aug 6 (Thu): Hang Seng Index fell 385.54 points (-1.49%) to 25,530.28; Hang Seng Tech Index dropped 112.29 points (-2.28%) to 4,820.78; Hang Seng China Enterprises Index declined 105.00 points (-1.22%) to 8,498.73; Hang Seng Red Chip Index eased 35.83 points (-0.86%) to 4,122.32.

The Institute of High Energy Physics at the Chinese Academy of Sciences said a China-led team in the Beijing Spectrometer III (BESIII) international collaboration has, after 15 years of experiments, provided the first experimental confirmation of a new form of matter: the glueball. The Standard Model predicts glueballs as bound states of gluons arising from attractive gluon self-interaction; such particles had not previously been observed experimentally.
