On the 7th NV Energy, Nevada's largest supplier, sued a developer building two data centers in the state, alleging the facilities would consume nearly one-third of the utility's generation and shift power costs to consumers. NV Energy, which supplies about 90% of Nevada customers, is seeking the developer to fund roughly $1 bln in grid upgrades and warned that if the developer does not bear more infrastructure costs the utility may raise rates, passing the burden to households and businesses. The developer countered that NV Energy has failed to deliver promised power service while still demanding the $1 bln upgrade contribution.

The US Senate on Saturday approved a short-term funding measure to finance federal agencies through Dec. 11, aimed at averting a government shutdown weeks before the midterm elections. The bill passed 90-6; Senator Graham (R-S.C.) abstained. The measure lowers the risk of a shutdown on Oct. 1, the start of the new fiscal year, but does not guarantee one will be avoided — the House must reconcile the bill when it returns from recess.
