DRC health ministry data on the 11th show deaths in the current Ebola outbreak
have exceeded 2,000, with roughly half occurring in the past 20 days, UN senior
Ebola coordinator Julian Hennis said on social media. The outbreak is caused by
the Bundibugyo ebolavirus; there is currently no licensed vaccine or specific
therapy for this strain. Candidate vaccines and treatments are undergoing
clinical trials. Hennis urged immediate additional action to save lives and
contain the outbreak.
