The outage adds pressure to an already tight global copper market, with large flows to the United States and increased shipments to China coinciding with LME copper trading above $14,000/t for a fifth consecutive session. The Grasberg mine in Papua, which was hit by a mudflow last year and has only partially resumed output, is not expected to fully restart until around 2028.
