On the morning of Aug. 12, Chinese navy ship Honghe and Indonesian frigate Lai completed all scheduled transit exercises east of Taiwan. After arriving on station the vessels formed a task group and conducted live drills on maritime communications, formation maneuvers, underway replenishment and separation procedures. Honghe’s crew used tactical brevity codes and flag/semaphore signals to communicate and transmit orders with the Indonesian ship; both sides completed the planned objectives.
