US-Iran negotiations to end the conflict have stalled after terms of a June
interim peace accord collapsed over control of the Strait of Hormuz. Iran says
it will only fully reopen the strait after receiving war reparations and sets
six conditions: no threats or insults to Iran, a permanent end to hostilities
against Iran and its allies, removal of the US naval blockade, payment of war
damages, lifting of sanctions, and unfreezing of Iranian assets. Trump has
demanded Iran compensate for what he describes as US casualties. Iran says it is
finalizing a new bilateral shipping channel with Oman; Trump asserts the US Navy
has full control of the waterway.
