Iran foreign ministry spokesman Baghaei said on the 15th the current situation
in the Strait of Hormuz is a direct result of what he called illegal actions by
the United States and Israel. Analysts say the two sides’ sustained public
confrontation makes near‑term resolution unlikely and full, unimpeded navigation
in the Strait hard to achieve in the short term. They add the stalemate is
unlikely to shift materially unless the US launches a new large‑scale military
strike, and that proposals by Trump to "defeat Iran" or to treat the Strait as
US territory will remain empty rhetoric.
