The Ministry of Water Resources said at a briefing on Aug 16 that as of 09:00,
52 rivers in Zhejiang, Shanghai, Jiangsu, Anhui, Henan, Heilongjiang and Inner
Mongolia remain above warning levels, with a maximum exceedance of 4.27 meters;
28 are above guaranteed flood-control levels. Forecasts for Aug 16–17 show
rainfall and upstream inflows will keep Taihu rising slowly; lower Yangtze
tributaries including the Chuhe, mid-Huai River tributary Shaying and the
Heilongjiang mainstem below Tongjiang are expected to remain above warning. Min
and Qingyi rivers in Sichuan will experience rising water and some small rivers
in heavy-rain areas may exceed warning levels. From 08:00 Aug 16 to 08:00 Aug 17
there is a high risk of flash floods in north-central Sichuan and an orange
mountain-flood warning has been issued. The ministry maintained a yellow flood
warning and urged affected areas to take precautions.
