China has reported a breakthrough in rare‑earth testing. A SAMR‑designated key
laboratory for rare‑earth product testing and traceability at Jiangxi University
of Science and Technology developed several detection techniques, notably an
inductively coupled plasma tandem mass spectrometry (ICP‑MS/MS) method that
directly measures trace rare‑earth impurities in high‑purity materials. The
ICP‑MS/MS approach overcomes matrix‑interference limits and the need for prior
matrix separation, lowers detection limits, and delivers higher sensitivity,
accuracy and faster turnaround, providing stronger technical support for
rare‑earth product quality control.
