At the morning close, China's most-active futures were mostly higher. Container shipping Europe-route futures jumped nearly 9%; mono-ethylene glycol (MEG) rose over 5%. Synthetic rubber and benzene gained more than 4%; PTA, p-xylene and low-sulfur fuel oil climbed around 4%. Lagging: corn, starch and lithium carbonate fell over 1%.

Ukraine General Staff said on Aug. 16 its forces struck the Kamensky Joint Enterprise in Russia’s Rostov Oblast, a facility in the Russian military‑industrial complex. Ukraine reported a fire at the site and said damage and operational effects are under verification. The plant produces solid rocket propellant for "Hurricane", "Tornado" and "Tornado‑S" MLRS munitions and propellants used in various missile systems and air‑delivered weapons. The Russian Defence Ministry’s 24‑hour combat report on Aug. 16 said Russian forces seized Pershomarievka in Donetsk region and Kudievka in Kharkiv region, and that air defences shot down 14 guided aerial bombs, one US‑made HIMARS rocket, nine "Flamingo" long‑range cruise missiles and 1,478 fixed‑wing UAVs — the highest single‑day tally the ministry has announced.
