U.S. Syria envoy Tom Barrack said on the 18th on social media he was deeply concerned about Israeli strikes on the Abu Zuhur airbase, calling them an unnecessary escalation that does not help regional stability. He said the Syrian transitional government has not adopted a hostile posture or continued to cultivate proxy forces and has repeatedly expressed willingness to ease ties with Israel. Syrian state news, citing military sources, reported earlier the same day that Israeli warplanes carried out multiple airstrikes on the Abu Zuhur airbase in Idlib province.
