Two regional officials told CBS on Tuesday that President Trump threatened to
bomb Oman over a proposed Oman-Iran agreement to manage ship transit through the
Strait of Hormuz. The officials said the Trump administration informed Oman it
opposed parts of the not-yet-public deal, including arrangements for Iran and
Oman to jointly manage exit lanes from the strait. U.S. officials viewed Oman as
insufficiently tough in negotiations and objected to Oman's agreement to levy
voluntary fees on vessels purportedly for security and marine-environment
protection.
