Hokkaido Electric Power Co. said a worker died Tuesday night after falling into
a gravel silo used to build a seawall while working on Unit 3 at the Tomari
nuclear plant, the Hokkaido Shimbun reported. The company had planned to restart
Unit 3 in mid‑December 2027. Hokkaido Electric said in July it was considering
various restart scenarios; a company spokesman said it will "reconsider the
restart date" after the accident investigation concludes. Tomari is Hokkaido’s
only nuclear power station.
