Tropical storm Saudel, the 18th named storm of the year, formed this morning in the northwest Pacific. At 11:00 its center was about 1,160 km southeast of Guam at 8.2°N, 153.9°E. Maximum sustained winds near the center 18 m/s; central pressure 998 hPa; radius of 7-level winds 100–200 km. Saudel is moving NNW at 15–20 km/h, expected to strengthen and track toward waters east of the Ryukyu Islands. No impact on Chinese waters is expected over the next five days.
