China night-session front-month futures opened mixed: low-sulfur fuel oil (LU) fell more than 1%; glass, Shanghai crude (SC), PTA, paraxylene (PX) and soda ash slipped about 1%. Shanghai gold and silver and coking coal gained over 1%; starch and Shanghai nickel rose roughly 1%.

A tropical depression in the South China Sea made landfall near Longlou town, Wenchang, Hainan at about 05:40 on the 20th, with maximum winds near the center of 6 on the scale (12 m/s) and central pressure 997 hPa. The system is forecast to move westward across Wenchang, Haikou, Chengmai, Lingao and Danzhou and enter the Beibu Gulf by the afternoon to evening of the 20th, bringing heavy rain to northern and western Hainan.
