German Federal Statistical Office: July producer prices rose 3.0% YoY (consensus
2.7%), accelerating from June’s 1.8% and marking the biggest gain since April
2023; PPI was up 1.1% MoM. Intermediate goods prices rose 5.4% YoY; energy
climbed 3.8% YoY. Bettmann Bank chief economist Alexander Krug said an
early-stage inflation surge is worrying, citing effects from the Iran-related
conflict and recent heat. Prolonged low Rhine water levels have constrained
inland shipping and pushed up transport costs.
