Chinese Politburo member and director of the Central Foreign Affairs Office Wang
Yi met in Seoul on the 20th with South Korea National Security Office director
Wee Seong-rok for a strategic dialogue. They exchanged views on regional
security; Wang reiterated China’s positions on regional and Korean Peninsula
issues, warned against Japanese right‑wing actions that could revive militarism,
and said resolving Peninsula tensions requires addressing root causes and urging
the U.S. to abandon a hostile policy toward North Korea. He called for steps to
restart dialogue, rebuild mutual trust, and convert the armistice into a peace
mechanism for long‑term stability.
