A U.S.-backed consortium is negotiating an investment of roughly $500–600m to develop the Kabanga nickel project in Tanzania as the Trump administration pushes to secure critical metal supplies. The group, formed in October and backed by the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) and Abu Dhabi’s L'imad Holding, would have Orion CMC acquire a stake in Kabanga Nickel, the Lifezone Metals unit that holds the project; one source said the amount is closer to $500m.
