The Trump administration authorized early sale of winter gasoline to ease
fuel-cost increases and supply concerns tied to the Iran war, the U.S. EPA said
Thursday. EPA relaxed summer gasoline standards, allowing the higher-emission
winter blend to be used earlier than the usual mid-September switch and
permitting sale of gasoline with 10% ethanol from Sept. 1. The government said
the waiver will effectively end summer-formula requirements early, could boost
U.S. gasoline supply by several hundred thousand barrels per day and should help
relieve pump-price pressure.
