The Wall Street Journal, citing people familiar with the matter, reports Fannie
Mae expects at least 10 senior executives to leave, including several top
leaders; several officials were told Wednesday their positions were eliminated.
Market participants say the exits raise concern that Fannie Mae’s ability to
stabilize mortgage pricing and market activity could be impaired. Fannie Mae and
Freddie Mac remain central to US housing finance by buying mortgages,
securitizing them and guaranteeing investor payments—supporting widespread
availability of 30-year fixed-rate loans. The personnel changes increase
near-term uncertainty for mortgage spreads, liquidity and the execution of
housing finance policy.
