CENTCOM said on Aug 23 the destroyer USS John Finn is operating in the Arabian Sea enforcing a US maritime blockade of Iran. Since the blockade began, CENTCOM said it has intercepted 75 merchant ships; as of Aug 23 the US military had ordered 70 merchant ships to change course, rendered three vessels inoperable and boarded two for inspection.

Following public reports that cabbage was dipped in formaldehyde solution during procurement in Kangbao County, Zhangjiakou, Hebei, the State Council Office for Food Safety, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and the State Administration for Market Regulation directed local authorities to immediately investigate and verify, take strict and swift legal action, and trace the distribution of affected cabbage to prevent contaminated product reaching the market. They also ordered nationwide special sampling and market inspections of cabbage and other perishable vegetables and warned that confirmed violations will be punished severely to protect food safety.
