Ahead of Qixi, major jewelers ran promotions: Chow Tai Fook offering items from 10% off, Lao Fengxiang discounting priced gold jewellery by 80 yuan per gram, and Chao Hongji at 15% off single items and ~17% off two-item purchases. Qu Rui, senior vice director of research at Orient Jincheng, says small-weight sales reflect consumption stratification and scenario-based demand in a high-price environment. Since early 2026 gold prices have rebounded, lifting the market’s effective price floor and raising retail entry thresholds. Seasonal festivals may provide intermittent support for consumption, but high gold prices and household income expectations should continue to constrain demand growth.

SoftBank Group said on Monday it plans to issue JPY1 trillion (about $6.29bn) of seven-year corporate bonds aimed at retail investors, with a provisional coupon range of 4.3–4.9% per a regulatory filing. Proceeds will fund increased AI investments and will be raised via borrowing, bond issuance and asset disposals, including sales of holdings in NVIDIA and T‑Mobile. The offering would be the largest in the company's history, roughly twice the prior record JPY600bn issue in April 2025. Final terms are expected Sept. 4.
