AP reports the Trump administration is preparing to revoke up to 200,000 B1/B2
business and tourist visas issued 2016–2026 for holders who have applied for or
are applying for asylum. State Department documents and two US officials cited
by AP say an announcement could come within weeks, coordinated with the
Department of Homeland Security, and would be handled on a rolling basis. The
State Department says it is identifying and revoking visas of foreigners who
claimed short-term visitor status then sought asylum; revocation would not
automatically trigger immediate removal — most asylum applicants under review
would be reclassified and lose B1/B2 status. The move, if implemented, would be
the largest single visa revocation in US history and is likely to face legal
challenges.
