The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday granted the Justice Department's emergency request to stay a lower-court injunction that had blocked Trump's March executive order limiting mail voting in 23 Democratic‑run states and Washington, D.C., clearing a path for the administration to pursue the measures while other judicial constraints remain. The order directs agencies to compile citizenship lists, prioritize prosecutions of officials who send ballots to ineligible voters, and restrict USPS delivery of ballots to qualified voters. A Boston federal judge had ruled in June the president lacks authority to alter state election administration; DOJ argued the lawsuits were premature. Trump has long questioned mail‑voting security and pledged to end the practice; because Democrats use mail ballots at higher rates, the restrictions could advantage Republicans. Further legal challenges are expected ahead of the midterms.
