German business confidence improved sharply in August: the business climate
index rose to 88.8, versus market expectations of 87.2. Both components
strengthened — the current conditions index climbed to 88.5 (exp. 87.0) and the
expectations index rose to 89.1 (exp. 87.5) — signalling greater six‑month
optimism. The release coincides with recent signs of renewed resilience in the
German economy, including stronger manufacturing activity and recovering
corporate sentiment; industrial momentum has helped offset continuing weakness
in some service-sector areas, as reflected in preliminary PMI readings.
