Shanghai Stock Exchange: Zhongji Xuchuang (03308.HK) has been added to the list of Hong Kong securities eligible for Southbound trading under the Shanghai–Hong Kong Stock Connect, effective from the next Southbound trading day.

Hong Kong stocks traded choppily in the morning; at midday the Hang Seng Index was up 0.68% and the Hang Seng Tech Index gained 1.58%. Tech and internet names led the rebound: Xiaomi (01810.HK) rose over 4%, Meituan (03690.HK) and Kuaishou (01024.HK) rose over 2%, Baidu (09888.HK), Alibaba (09988.HK) and Tencent (00700.HK) rose over 1%. Financials were also active: China International Capital Co (03908.HK) and Shenwan Hongyuan Hong Kong (00218.HK) rose over 8%, while Nanhua Futures (02691.HK) and China Merchants Securities (06099.HK) rose over 5%.

Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) planning division chief Yao Jun said on Aug. 26 MIIT will push high‑quality development of China’s raw‑materials industry during the 15th Five‑Year Plan, focusing on three priorities. First, restructure industry to improve capacity fit and upgrade capability by strictly enforcing the capacity‑replacement policy, instituting dynamic capacity‑risk early warnings for key products, and optimizing industrial layout to concentrate resources in advanced capacity and better match supply and demand. Second, bolster resource and industrial security by stabilizing supply and improving resource quality: accelerate R&D in efficient mining, beneficiation and smelting for scarce resources and expand comprehensive use of low‑grade, associated and hard‑to‑process ores and solid waste through sourcing, conservation and recycling. Third, drive advanced‑materials innovation by targeting frontier technologies and production pain points, including deeper application of AI in materials R&D and production processes and accelerated development of hydrogen metallurgy and other green low‑carbon technologies.
