Fed Governor Lisa Cook on Wednesday denied repeated, unproven mortgage-fraud
allegations from Trump as he considers restarting efforts to remove her. In a
letter to the White House, Cook’s lawyer called the claims "baseless and
untrue," said Cook never committed mortgage fraud or any intentional misconduct,
and argued there is no legal basis to remove her from the Federal Reserve Board;
the move is likely to trigger another heated legal dispute over Fed
independence.
